 Where We Come From

Grass Valley Brewing Company is located in the historic Sierra Nevada foothills. An area of rich history, scenic beauty and an ever rich changing culture of arts, innovative industry and diversity. GVBC was founded by four families, (Chad/Heidi Wingo, Matt/Erin Kinney, Tom/Carah Rogers, Chris/Alexa DeSena) who met through their kindergarten age children. These families forged a bond through yearly camping excursions and sharing their children’s growth and experiences. Through Tom’s passion of craft home brewing and sharing those brews with the other parents of course, the concept of GVBC was formed. Grass Valley did not have a local brewery since national prohibition.

The original Grass Valley Brewery was. Founded by Johann David Binkleman in 1861 at 217 N. Auburn St. Now the location of Courtyard Suites. The original hand dug beer cellar still remains. Binkleman (born in Wirtemberg Germany) worked as a miner and baker. He purchase a half interest in the brewery in 1856.

After the Company's establishment in 2017 and many hours of sweat, tears and good fortunes, Grass Valley Brewing Company officially opened in the Summer of 2018 with much anticipated arrival. The welcoming was tremendous. To the complement of, “Grass Valley’s Living Room”.

GVBC”s mission of offering great craft beer and food, hinges on its commitment to community. Collaborating with business partners, supporting community functions and supporting the vast non profit organizations of Nevada County. We're proud to be a collaborator in our local community that foster’s and strengthens us all.

Surviving Covid was a real test of that community support. The original proprietor of Roost Kitchen, Sean Cox, turn the kitchen into a call in grocery store, patrons could order baking supplies, meats and more to be picked up the next day. The tap room remained open for off sale of our craft beer favorites in 4 packs, Growlers and kegs. We are forever grateful for our local community support to still be hear today.

Come on in and check out some of GVBC’s award winning craft beers and GVBC’s great food options and delicious food including summertime Smokin' Weekend BBQ by Head Chef Tom Merritz, and tastey cocktails at our Taphouse bar. We hope to see you soon.

Cheers

GVBC
