 Where We Come From

Grass Valley Brewing Company, settled in the heart of the

historical Northern California gold rush foothills. An area of rich history, scenic beauty with ever rich changing culture of Arts, Innovative industry and diversity. GVBC was founded by four families, ( Chad/Heidi Wingo, Matt/Erin Kinney, Thomas/Carah Rogers, Chris/Alexa DeSena) who met through their Kindergarten children and forged a bond. Exploring together through yearly camping excursions. Trips together both in and out of state, sharing our children’s evolution and experiences as one.

Through Tom’s passion of craft beer, home brewing and sharing that passion. The concept of a local downtown, City of Grass Valley, Craft Brewery was formed. Not seen since the end of prohibition.

The original Grass Valley Brewery was. Founded by Johann David Binkleman in 1861 at 217 N. Auburn St. Now the location of Courtyard Suites. The original hand dug beer cellar still remains. Binkleman (born in Wirtemberg Germany) worked as a miner and baker. He purchase a half interest in the brewery in 1856.

After many hours of sweat, tears and good fortunes. The Grass Valley Brewing Company opened in the Summer of 2018 with much anticipated arrival. The welcoming was tremendous. To the complement of, “Grass Valley’s Living Room”.

GVBC”s mission of offering great craft beer and food, hinges on its commitment to community. Collaborating with business partners, supporting community functions and supporting the vast non profit organizations of Nevada County. It’s that collective community energy that foster’s and strengthens us all.

Surviving Covid was a real test of community support. The original proprietor of Roost Kitchen, Sean Cox, turn the kitchen into a call in grocery store. Patrons could order baking supplies, meats and more to be picked up the next day. The tap room remained open for off sale of our craft beer favorites. 4 packs, Growlers and kegs. It was an uncertain time for the second year. We are forever grateful for that community support to still be hear today.

So come on in and check out some of GVBC’s award winning craft beers and GVBC’s great food options and specialty summer Smoking Weekend smoked BBQ by Head Chef Tom Merritz. We also have amazing house cocktails if that’s your jam. Kick back and enjoy our laid back atmosphere. Grass Valley Brewing Company is dog friendly in our Brew House seating area and we are family friendly. We hope to see you soon.

Cheers
